New Pacifier?

We know that Beck will start putting everything in his mouth eventually…but we’ve been surprised (and bummed out quite frankly) at how little he likes a pacifier. In truth we think he likes it, but his tongue doesn't allow him to keep it in his mouth! He spits it out then cries because he wants it back. It's a fun little game he likes to play with us :) Now it appears from this video Meg took that Beckett is very close to finding his thumb which we hope will be another tool for soothing him when he’s fussy and over tired! Meg even captured the sound effects to go with his new favorite pastime!

Christmas Tree Cutting 2009

It's that time of year again! Time to go out into the woods (or Harvey Hawken's Maple Valley Christmas tree farm in this case), find and fell the perfect Christmas tree. This year we picked a really tall one because of the vaulted ceilings in our new living room. The tree in this video is ~13' tall! Turns out it looks a lot taller inside than outside :) Last year we happened upon this tree farm by chance. Harvey has been running it for years and lives on the property. Very friendly guy! Heather, Eric and the 4 of us had a great time seeking out our trees and heading back to our house for cider in front of the fire. Meg had a great time snapping pictures and it was fun to include little Beck in our annual tradition!

Waking up

Yes sleeping babies are really cute…but naked babies are even cuter! Beck has quite the involved stretching routine when he wakes up so I decided to strip him down to his diaper and capture him waking up. What a precious little tiny body!

Movin' on up

A couple of weeks ago we wanted to see what would happen if we put Beckett in his crib to nap. He'd been sleeping in a cradle in our room (thanks Aunt Betsy!) until about 5 weeks of age and one day after he'd had his lunch, the conditions seemed right! We put him in his crib and watched as he opened his eyes to look at all of the colors and the giraffes surrounding him then he drifted off to sleep. Since then we've been sleeping better since we're distanced from the little grunts and groans he makes all night...and he's sleeping better too! For those of you around the world, we wanted to share this video so you could see where Beck sleeps, eats and gets his diaper changed. Exciting, we know :) but it's part of our everyday and since we can't share life in person, here's a little of our world!

Luke Boys Snoozing

There are few things sweeter than watching a baby sleep. So peaceful. The moments when it's quiet in the house and all you can hear is the sound of their breath as you watch their little chest rise and fall. I could post a bunch of videos and pictures of Beckett sleeping- I've taken a lot! I was able to capture both of my boys snoozing together one weekend morning- such a sweet thing. Beck looks so content to be with his daddy!

Swinging & Seasick?

The swing has become one of Beck's favorite activities. We were lucky enough to have a friend give us this one (thanks Hana!) that swings side to side and front to back. These days he will sleep in the swing for more than an hour which is great time for mommy to do blog posts, check email, cook dinner- whatever she likes and hands free! Here's a video of why he's not fond of side to side swinging...think it makes him a bit queasy.

We have smiles!!

Beckett started smiling more predictably (and for reasons other than gas!) last week and we're loving it! We are cooing, tickling him and doing all kinds of crazy things to get him to smile at us-- things you think you'll never do until you have kids! He is 8 weeks old and weighing in at a solid 12lbs 4oz. After all of the initial issues with jaundice and weight gain we are thrilled that he is filling out. Check out his cute smile and cute little double chin in this video!

Labor & Delivery was nothing compared to this!

Well...in my case at least. I know that a lot of women have hard birth experiences and long stays in the hospital having their babies. That part went great for me, but 7 weeks into little Beckett's life I find myself struggling more with breastfeeding than anything else. Beck and I are learning as we go and I hope it gets better soon-- but right now the pain is intense! Never experienced anything like it. I haven't posted here in a few weeks since I've been dealing with feeding challenges but I realized I should probably be writing about ALL of what we are experiencing and not just the good stuff. So here it is...and on we go to another day trying to figure this motherhood thing out! Prayers are appreciated :)
